Genesis 3D (also known as the Genesis 3D Movie, Genesis Movie 3D, Genesis Movie or simply Genesis) is an upcoming American Christian documentary film developed by Resurrection Pictures and directed and produced by Ralph Strean with Eric Hovind as executive producer. The purpose of the film is to present the very first book of the Holy Bible, being Genesis (which is the most attacked book in the Bible), in an understandable and believable context and demonstrating how modern science backs up Creation as well as the Bible as a reliable historical record and document to ultimately demonstrate the authenticity and reality of the Biblical text. The film is being supported by and will feature Answers in Genesis. The film is scheduled for theatrical release (with extent of release depending upon budget) and later for a DVD and Blu-ray release. This film is planned to be the first film in a trilogy or series of films.

Synopsis[edit]

Genesis 3D Movie is a feature-length documentary film based on the first book of the Bible, featuring stunning 3D visual effects accompanied with expert scientific research![1]

Development[edit]

According to Resurrection Pictures, "Resurrection Pictures’ original film project, Genesis, has been in the works for a while and has taken many different twists and turns."[2] In 2009, Resurrection Pictures announced their plans to produce their new movie-project Creation (later renamed Dr. Dino), their first original film project, which was supposed to be "a biopic that dramatizes the life of Kent “Dr. Dino” Hovind, tracing his rise to prominence as one of America’s best known creation evangelists, and his eventual fall from grace due to income tax evasion." The movie's script was written by Kevin Miller, the writer of Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, and was scheduled for production in 2010 and the organization asked for donations in order to begin production.[3] Resurrection Pictures later reported that the production of the film was pushed back even further towards 2011.[4] They also revealed an excerpt from the script which described Kent Hovind in a science classroom teaching students about the purported logical fallacies of the modern Evolutionism movement.[5]

In February 2010, Resurrection Pictures reported "We are so excited about this film and are looking to release it in theaters in 2011" and they also stated that the purpose of the film was "1) Provide children, families, and individuals an educated argument for intelligent design and expose the fallacies in the theory of evolution. The film will present some key arguments used by Dr. Kent Hovind's Creation Series to soundly disprove evolution. The false reasoning behind the lies of evolution will also be presented through other characters in the film. 2) Place emphasis on the value of life and show through science that everything was created for a purpose. By establishing that all life has a purpose, Resurrection Pictures will be counteracting the social and cultural lies that have plagued our current worldview and harmed so many."[6]

Between 2012 and 2013, the film was renamed Genesis (and later Genesis 3D after having realized that introducing 3D adds another layer of realism and believability to what is being witnessed), and Eric Hovind (president of Creation Today) became involved producing the film, and was given promotion from Christian media.[7] Hovind asked people to donate and support the production of the movie with $275 for 1 second, $8,250 for 30 seconds and $16,500 for one minute of the movie at the Creation Today website.[8] In addition to the previous solicitations for money, the team behind the film had IndieGoGo fundraisers for the movie. The first was in October 2013 when the team brought in $272,359 from donors, expecting a middle 2014 finish date.[9] However, realizing that the support for the film exceeded the initial budget, the team decided to go for their original $800,000 budget.

In April 2014, the team had brought in $300,000.[10] On June 3 2014, the official website stated that they had received $354,046 and had set another goal for $500,000 with the motivation "Contributions will go directly toward improving the amount and quality of animation, and expanding the theatrical release of the film."[11] In September 2014, Hovind announced they had received "almost $400,000" and that the film was delayed for about a year so that they could raise more money for development, writing: "While we do have a set goal of completing the film in a little under a year, we’re also raising more funds to add more CG to the film, so our release date is like a moving target."[12]

As of early 2016, the film still had no official release date and the official website stated "We’re hard at work completing the Genesis 3D film. We know how much you want to see it, and we know just how much the world needs it! Because of the complexity of a film release, we’re still figuring out exactly when the release date for theaters will be. Please sign up below to stay posted!",[13] and Creation Today continues asking for donations and are also selling items to promote the movie.[14][15] As of January 21, 2016, Eric Hovind stated that they have raised 90% of the budget and also that they need people to donate another $90,000 to finish the movie and states that it will be completed in eight months as well as that the score of the soundtrack is going to be produced in a month and a half.[16]
